Frequently Asked Questions
Where do I actually attend the white card course if I'm in Port Adelaide?
The closest scheduled course for Port Adelaide locals is our Adelaide CBD venue at Level 2, 45 Grenfell Street. It’s about 14km from Port Adelaide, roughly a 20–25 minute drive via Port Road, or you can catch the Outer Harbor train line straight into the city. The city venue is right in the centre, so it’s an easy trip in.
Is there a closer option than the city?
For the northern parts of the Port Adelaide area, our Salisbury course is also worth a look — it’s a similar distance for some suburbs. Both the Adelaide CBD and Salisbury courses run the same training for the same $125 price, so pick whichever is the easier trip. Compare all SA venues on our South Australia white card page.
Which local employers and trades around Port Adelaide need a white card?
Port Adelaide is a major industrial and maritime hub, so there’s plenty of construction work about. The shipbuilding precinct at Osborne (Techport), port and warehouse projects, and the housing renewal across Port Adelaide and Semaphore all need workers with a white card. Labourers, apprentices, and tradies on those sites all need one. Electricians, plumbers, carpenters, riggers, and sub-contractors chasing work with port-area builders or labour-hire firms will need this card first.
What are the white card rules in South Australia?
In SA the white card must be done face-to-face — there’s no online option. The regulator is SafeWork SA, and they issue your plastic card after the course. You’ll get a Statement of Training on the day so you can start on site straight away while you wait for the card. Weekday courses are usually issued the same day; weekend courses are processed the following Wednesday.
How do I get to the Adelaide CBD venue and where do I park?
The venue at 45 Grenfell Street is in the city centre. From Port Adelaide the easiest run is the Outer Harbor train line, which drops you in the city a short walk from the venue, or it’s a 20–25 minute drive via Port Road. For parking there’s UPark Rundle and several Wilson car parks nearby, plus metered street parking. Allow time before the 9:00am start.
Can you come to our Port Adelaide workplace instead?
Yes. If you’ve got a team that needs certifying, we can deliver the course on-site across the Port Adelaide and western suburbs area for group bookings — often the easiest option for a crew. It saves everyone the trip into the city. Call 1300 029 132 or see our corporate training page.
Does the white card expire?
No. White cards issued after January 2012 don’t expire and are recognised across Australia. If you’ve been out of the construction industry for two years or more, a refresher is recommended to brush up on current safety rules.
Will I get my certificate on the day?
Yes. You’ll get your nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for CPCWHS1001 on the day you finish, plus a Statement of Training so you can start work straight away. SafeWork SA issues your physical white card shortly after.
Do I need a USI before the course?
Yes. You need a free Unique Student Identifier (USI) for any nationally recognised training in Australia. Set one up in a few minutes at usi.gov.au and bring it on the day with photo ID.
Is the white card the right course for me?
If you need to work on or enter a construction site, the white card (CPCWHS1001 — Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry) is the course you need. It’s the entry-level induction every construction worker must have. One day, $125, no hidden extras. Enrol online or call 1300 029 132.
